स्वस्थस्य स्वास्थ्य रक्षणम्: The Ancient Vedic Principle for Modern Wellness
Charaka Samhita's timeless advice, to protect the health of the healthy, and how a daily wellness routine with Healy fits that preventive philosophy.
“स्वस्थस्य स्वास्थ्य रक्षणं, आतुरस्य विकार प्रशमनं” To protect the health of the healthy, and to relieve the illness of the sick. (Charaka Samhita, Sutrasthana 30.26)
This line from the Charaka Samhita, one of the founding texts of Ayurveda, puts prevention first. Long before modern wellness trends, Indian physicians taught that the best time to care for your health is while you are still well.
What “swastha” really means
In Ayurveda a person is swastha, healthy, not only when free of illness but when:
- body, mind and spirit are in balance,
- the three doshas, Vata, Pitta and Kapha, are in harmony,
- digestion, emotions and energy flow smoothly.
Most of us think about our health only when something goes wrong. Ayurveda reminds us that imbalance usually builds quietly for a long time before we notice it. That is why it asks us to protect what is already working well.
Simple daily habits
The tradition’s advice is practical and timeless:
- keep regular times for waking, eating and sleeping,
- eat fresh, seasonal, freshly cooked food,
- move every day, and breathe deeply,
- make time for quiet: meditation, prayer or a walk in nature.
Where Healy fits
Healy is a German wellness device that applies frequency programs through the skin. It is not a replacement for any of these habits, but many families use it as part of their daily routine. The Power of Three group (Healy Evolve and up) includes programs named Vata, Pita and Kapha, and groups such as the Gold Cycle and Mental Balance are themed around everyday balance and calm.
Dinesh Mishra, Senior Vice President with Healy World and founder of Team Healing4World, holds awareness sessions and Experience Zones so that families can learn about prevention-focused routines and try Healy for themselves.
